About this event
Erasmus Huis, the Dutch cultural centre in Kuningan, hosts a book talk and discussion on Merebut Bali: Kolonialisme, Kekerasan, dan Perlawanan 1846–1950 on Thursday 29 October 2026 at 7pm. The book is the Indonesian translation of Dutch historian Anne-Lot Hoek's De strijd om Bali, published by Marjin Kiri.
Drawing on more than 120 oral interviews plus archival and field research, the book tells the story of the guerrilla war that broke out in Bali after the Second World War, when Indonesian fighters led by figures such as I Gusti Ngurah Rai confronted the returning Dutch military.
Speakers: author Anne-Lot Hoek; historian Bonnie Triyana, co-founder of Historia.id and guest curator of the Rijksmuseum's Revolusi! exhibition; and writer and editor Dewi Ria Utari.
Entry is free and no reservation is needed: just turn up at Erasmus Huis. The discussion is expected to be held mainly in Indonesian.
Getting there: Erasmus Huis is at Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said Kav. S-3, Kuningan, next to the Dutch Embassy. TransJakarta corridor 6 runs along Jl. Rasuna Said.
